Overview

The blackness of the ground was mirrored by the black sky, getting darker and darker when you were closing the center of the wounded circle of the woods. Strangely, the sun was shining normally, casting black shadows from fallen trunks of trees, laying everywhere.

The surrounding dire

The dire wolf attacked immediately. The fight got brutal on Dulcimer, but the first wolf was finally won, just in time to see a few others closing by from all directions. While readying yourself for the attack, you suddenly saw the dire wolves running off one by one. Are they escaping from something?

The ground was shaking and you could hear the branches crushing, as if something big and heavy would be closing in. Alistairs hawk could see something strikingly orange running towards you from a distance. It was jumping over the difficult terrain at ease, and while running, it suddenly disappeared from sight. Invisibility!

Insults and invisibilities

Alistair took cover by ascending to the heights. The heroes could track the creature by the noise and damage it was causing to the ground below. Alistair damaged it with a spell of fire, getting a sensation that this creature is able to resist the element of fire to some extent. Onni and Dulcimer were also able to injure it, and Dulcimer got a spell through that caused it to back up for a moment.

That was a short relief. Dropping invisibility, it cast a spell to entangle Dulcimer and Onni and leap to fight with the warforged. Onni got aside his friend to help and fight, and somehow got some words in mind that resembled something, with no name, an idea, a handful of words. The creature was able to understand Onni's inspired expression and was able to respond, with insults in an unknown language.

The fight got fierce, but finally the creature was laying dead and the heroes started to get themselves back on the feet. During a short rest Onni took off some teeth from the slayed and Alistar figured out that this is a creature that is not originated from this plane of existence. A wizard of arcane greed could summon this type of monster.

But that would be a very dangerous practice. Right?

Observations from the sky

The hawk of Alistair revealed a few interesting details

  • you are about half a way through to reach the center of this black phenomenon
  • there are slowly moving monster trees more to the edge of the black area, and a few very big ones closer to the centre
  • no other colourful creatures in sight
