Timeline

Day 2-3.

Overview

The battle for Vraath Keep was a great success. This leads to a number of development options.

Roller coaster

"And so they made all of the goblinoids and their allies to follow the route, 2-3 times each. First they forced them to run up to the tower and then used their magic to drop them down through a hole on the floor. They made that hole just for this enterprise."

"Yeah and those who were too tired were just defenestrated out to the castle walls."

The traveller was shacking her head. "I don't believe your fairy tales. How would you know, anyway?"

"Jorr the Ranger was there, he saw it all. We heard the story straight from himself."

"Or actually from the innkeeper Kellin Shadowbanks, but he is from the same town. Was."

The couple changed a worried look.

"We wish Drellin's Ferry would be like it was. But that is impossible."

After a moment of silence, the traveller took out two copper pieces. "One round for these poor souls, please. What happened to Vraath Keep?"

"That I do not know. They say it was originally a dakhini settlement. Some wizard was living there during The War."

"But ever since the wizard was gone, the place had been haunted, that is for sure."

Developments

  • game time continues at the early morning of the next day after the assault
  • two goblin word riders and a manticore ran off
  • basement of the keep holds a hidden level, see below
  • level up, to 5th level
  • no astral explosion: combination of portable hole and boh did not happen

Notes of Wyrmlord Koth

From various sources, including letters, the map of Elsir Vale (see below) and Koth's personal notes, you collect these facts within a few hours of research and comprehend languages.

  • The Red Hand horde is gathering at Cinder Hill, preparing to march on Drellin's Ferry. The horde includes several thousand goblinoid warriors (goblins, hobgoblins and bugbears), under the command of fanatical priests.
  • Four commanders, Wyrmlords, lead the Red Hand. These are Koth, a goblin ranger named Saarvith, a hobgoblin bard named Ulwai Stormcaller, and a hobgoblin cleric named Hravek Kharn. Saarvith is located in the ruined city of Rhest. Wyrmlord Kharn commands the horde itself. The High Wyrmlord who rules over them all is a fearsome draconic humanoid named Azarr Kul.
  • Several dragons server Azarr Kul as advisors and subcommanders. A green dragon named Ozyrrandion has visited Vraath Keep three times.
  • Skull Gorge Bridge is a key site in the horde's descent from the mountains.
  • Drellin's Ferry is where the initial assault will fall on Elsir Vale. Koth intended to lead the attack personally. In his absense, Ozyrrandion or some other champion will lead the attack.

The journal of Amery Vraath

Long story short, he was a wizard living in this castle about 50-100 years ago. His late life goal was to purge the giants from the area. The final entry contains Amery's gloating note about having permanently solved the problem of the giants.

The deed and the container

The deed dates in years before The Last War and is verified by both House Sivis and House Kundarak. It notes that a copy of the deed is held by House Kundarak in the city vault of Gorunda Gate, in Mror Holds.

The holder of this deed is the legal owner of the castle (it is not called Vraath Keep in this old document). Or at least can try to claim the ownership, the deed would go a long way toward making that claim a legal reality.

The container holds a fortune of dragonshards in their raw form. As such, they are unusable and need refining. House Tharask has a monopoly over the trade on dragonshards.
